今週のジョーク「仕事に向いてる性別」(原題：Test of Wills・意志のテスト）
The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all of the background checks, interviews, and testing were done there were three finalists: two men and one woman. For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun.
CIAに１人の暗殺者の空きがでた。履歴書チェック、面接、テストを経て、最終候補者が３人に絞られた。２人は男性で、１人が女性だった。最終テストを行うため、CIAのエージェントは、まず大きな金属製のドアの所へ１人目の男を連れて行き、銃を渡してこう言った。
“We must know that you will follow our instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside this room you will find your wife sitting in a chair. You have to kill her.”
「どんな状況下でも君が支持に従えるかどうかを知りたい。この部屋には、君の妻が椅子に座っている。彼女を殺すのだ。」
The first man said, “You can’t be serious. I could never shoot my wife.”
１番目の男は言った。「本気ですか？私には妻を撃つなんてできません。」
The agent replies, “Then you’re not the right man for this job.”
エージェントは言った。「ということは、君はこの仕事にふさわしい人物ではないということだ。」
The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the man came out with tears in his eyes. “I tried, but I can’t kill my wife.”
２番目の男にも同じ指示が与えられた。彼は銃を手にし部屋に入っていった。５分間、あたりは静まりかえっていた。そのあと、男が涙を浮かべて出てきた。「やろうとした、でも妻を殺せなかった。」
The agent replies, “You don’t have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.”
エージェントは言った。「君には素質がない。妻を連れて家に帰りなさい。」
Finally, it was the woman’s turn. Only she was told to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet.
最後に、女性の番になった。彼女はただ夫を殺せ、とだけ言われた。彼女は銃を手に、部屋に入っていった。銃声が何度も何度も聞こえた。叫び声が聞こえ、物が壊れる音がして、何かを壁に叩きつける音が聞こえた。数分後、やっと静かになった。
The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow and said, “You guys didn’t tell me the gun was loaded with blanks. I had to beat him to death with the chair.”
ゆっくりとドアが開くと、女性が立ち尽くしていた。彼女は彼女は額の汗を拭うと言った。「どうして空砲だって教えてくれなかったの？死ぬまで椅子で叩かなきゃならなかったのよ。」
